Hyun Ji Kwon is a versatile cellist whose career spans Broadway musical theater, classical and contemporary music, and film score recording. Her Broadway credits include Cello Chair for The Queen of Versailles and the Broadway National Tour of 1776, as well as Cello Sub for Broadway productions including The Outsiders, Lost Boys, Titanique, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, and Beaches. She has also performed as Cello Sub for Off-Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo.

Kwon began her musical theater career in Seoul, Korea, performing in productions including The Phantom of the Opera and Jack the Ripper. Her regional theater work in New England includes Mary Poppins, A Christmas Carol, The Last Five Years, and Evita. She has also performed in Boston engagements of Broadway National Tours, including Parade, Suffs, and The Outsiders.

In addition to musical theater, Kwon maintains an active career as an orchestral and chamber musician. She is a member of Boston Lyric Opera, Meadowlark Trio, Echo Bridge Cellos, and Convergence Ensemble, and performs regularly with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), and Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed as Principal Cellist for Andrea Bocelli’s Boston concerts.

Her recording credits include original motion picture soundtracks for Korean films including Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Hello Brother, Blood Rain, and Tenants Downstairs.

As an educator, Kwon has taught at Colby College, Boston University, Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI), Phillips Exeter Academy, and Project STEP. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Ewha Womans University, a Master of Music and Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University.
